WSO2 has announced that its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, will step down from his role as CEO effective June 2026, marking a major leadership transition for the enterprise technology company.
The company’s Board of Directors has initiated the search for a permanent CEO and has appointed Devaka Randeniya as Acting Chief Executive Officer during the transition period.
Jonas Persson, Chairman of the Board at WSO2, credited Weerawarana for transforming the company into a globally recognized technology provider focused on integration, identity management, APIs, and AI-driven enterprise platforms.
“We are grateful to Sanjiva for his vision and leadership in building WSO2 into a globally recognized technology company. With a strong leadership team and growing demand for our platform, WSO2 is well positioned for its next phase of growth,” Persson said.
“It has been an incredible journey building WSO2 over the past two decades. I am proud of what we’ve accomplished and confident in the team and strategy driving the company forward,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana.
Weerawarana reflected on his two-decade journey leading the company and emphasized WSO2’s growing role in enabling AI-driven and agent-based enterprise experiences.
“WSO2’s role in enabling the next generation of AI-driven, agent-based digital experiences is only just beginning,” he said.
The company stated that demand for its platform continues to grow as enterprises seek secure ways to integrate, manage, and govern increasingly complex digital environments, including emerging AI agents and autonomous systems.
WSO2 is positioning itself as a control plane for AI-driven enterprise interactions, helping organizations maintain governance, visibility, and sovereignty across data, identities, and AI-enabled processes.
Weerawarana is also expected to join company executives at WSO2Con North America 2026 next week, where the leadership team will showcase WSO2’s latest innovations and strategic roadmap for the AI era.
