NKP’s hybrid, bare-metal and air-gapped capabilities strengthen Nutanix’s position in enterprise Kubernetes management
Nutanix has been recognized as a Challenger in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Container Management for the second consecutive year, highlighting the company’s continued push to simplify Kubernetes management as enterprises modernize applications and adopt AI.
The recognition follows the launch of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) in 2024. The platform is designed to provide a consistent operational layer for Kubernetes across virtualized and bare-metal infrastructure, public cloud, edge and air-gapped environments.
For enterprises, the significance extends beyond Kubernetes orchestration. Distributed application architectures, AI workloads and disconnected environments are increasing infrastructure complexity, making consistent lifecycle management and operations a growing priority for CIO and platform teams.
“As organizations modernize applications and embrace AI, they need infrastructure that delivers simplicity and flexibility without creating new silos,” said Thomas Cornely, Executive Vice President, Product Management, Nutanix.
Nutanix says NKP can operate independently or as part of the Nutanix Cloud Platform, allowing organizations to manage cloud-native applications alongside traditional workloads through a unified infrastructure foundation. This approach is particularly relevant for enterprises seeking to avoid fragmented Kubernetes environments as workloads span data centers, clouds and edge locations.
The company has also introduced NKP Metal, extending the platform to bare-metal deployments. It brings automated deployment, lifecycle management and enterprise data services to physical infrastructure, targeting organizations that require Kubernetes performance and control without adding operational complexity.

The Gartner recognition underscores a broader industry shift: Kubernetes management is increasingly becoming an enterprise infrastructure concern rather than simply a developer platform decision. For CIOs, the ability to standardize operations across diverse environments could become increasingly important as AI and cloud-native workloads scale.
