Tenable has appointed technology veteran Charlie Bell to its Board of Directors, adding nearly four decades of software engineering, cloud infrastructure and security leadership as the cybersecurity company expands its AI-powered exposure management strategy.
Bell brings experience from two of the technology industry’s largest cloud and security organisations. During more than two decades at Amazon Web Services, he played a central role in building and scaling cloud infrastructure, eventually leading core engineering, utility computing and operational teams as a Senior Vice President.
“Great engineering is the foundation of effective security. Tenable’s vision, backed by its massive data lake and advanced exposure intelligence, positions it uniquely to address the complexities of today’s AI attack surface.”
— Charlie Bell, Board Member, Tenable
At Microsoft, Bell most recently served as Executive Vice President of Security, Compliance, Identity and Management, overseeing enterprise security strategy, product engineering and threat intelligence operations.
His appointment comes as enterprises face a more complex attack surface spanning AI systems, cloud infrastructure, identity, OT and traditional IT. For Tenable, Bell’s engineering-led perspective adds technical depth to the board as the company seeks to connect exposure intelligence with proactive risk reduction.
Tenable Co-CEOs Mark Thurmond and Steve Vintz highlighted Bell’s experience in engineering resilient platforms, leading large-scale technology organisations and navigating major shifts in cloud and security.
Bell said Tenable’s exposure management approach and its data lake position the company to address the complexities created by the expanding AI attack surface.
The appointment signals that Tenable sees engineering expertise as increasingly central to cybersecurity strategy. As AI accelerates both enterprise innovation and the complexity of vulnerabilities and exposures, the ability to understand interconnected risks across technology environments is becoming as important as detecting individual security weaknesses.
Bell’s board role therefore adds more than industry experience; it strengthens Tenable’s technical perspective as exposure management evolves toward AI-driven, proactive risk reduction.
