HID Upgrades FARGO Printers for Faster, More Secure ID Issuance

HID

HID is strengthening its FARGO DTC ID card printer portfolio with hardware, print-quality and security enhancements designed to help organizations issue professional credentials faster while reducing operational dependence on IT teams.

The upgrades span the DTC1250e, DTC4500e and DTC1500, targeting organizations such as schools, healthcare providers, government offices and corporate campuses where ID issuance is increasingly tied to access control and identity management.

The enhanced printers use newer hardware and electronics platforms, alongside high-capacity ribbons, to improve throughput and reduce interruptions caused by frequent consumable changes. Print quality has also been upgraded to 300 x 600 dpi, with an enhanced color profile and adjustable K-panel printing for sharper text, logos and more accurate colors.

“We’ve been at this for a long time. For more than three decades, organizations have trusted us to power their ID badging programs. With thousands of printers in the field worldwide, we’re excited to build on that legacy by delivering enhanced solutions that provide greater value to our end users and support their mission-critical issuance processes.” — Apryl Erickson, VP and Head of FARGO, HID

Security remains a central part of the refresh. HID has added AES-256-GCM encryption and resin-scramble data protection across the DTC range, while the DTC1500 and DTC4500e add customizable watermark overlays without additional cost.

The portfolio also targets a common operational challenge: minimizing downtime and support calls. Built-in diagnostic and Color Assist utilities allow users to troubleshoot common issues through the printer driver, while an optional OLED SmartScreen on the DTC1250e is designed to simplify operation for non-technical staff.

Importantly, HID is positioning the printers for expansion rather than replacement. Field-upgradable dual-sided printing and encoding capabilities allow organizations to add functionality as credentialing programs grow.

The DTC1500 and DTC4500e also support FARGO Connect, HID’s cloud-based card printing platform for real-time fleet visibility. With availability rolling out from late October/early November and further portfolio expansion planned, HID is positioning FARGO as a scalable foundation for modern credential issuance.
