Cloudflare has launched Identity-Aware AI Gateway, a new tool designed to give IT and security teams real-time visibility into how employees and automated agents use artificial intelligence across the enterprise.
The solution connects Cloudflare AI Gateway with Cloudflare Access, allowing every AI request to be linked to a verified identity, whether it comes from an employee or an automated system. Companies can see who is sending requests to AI models, what is being shared, and how much each user or team is spending.
Cloudflare said the launch addresses two fast-growing enterprise challenges: rising AI usage costs and security blind spots. As employees and bots send more AI requests, organizations often struggle to identify who is driving spend or whether sensitive information such as employee names, passwords or confidential files is being sent to external AI providers.
A companion feature, User Insights, learns normal AI usage patterns for each person and automated system on a network. It alerts teams when activity deviates from that baseline, helping them detect unusual spending, risky behavior or inefficient use of high-powered AI models for simple tasks.
“When security is clunky, it becomes a speed bump that slows down innovation. Right now, companies are wary of surprise AI bills or accidental data leaks, so their instinct is to lock down access and restrict what teams can build,” said Dane Knecht, CTO of Cloudflare.
The platform also enables identity-based access controls, integration with identity providers and Zero Trust infrastructure, request logging, rate limiting, caching and automatic filtering of sensitive data before it reaches outside AI providers. Cloudflare said the goal is to let teams adopt AI tools freely while giving IT the guardrails, budget controls and security visibility needed to manage enterprise AI use at scale.
