Backbase has announced the acquisition of Kasisto, a pioneer in agentic AI for banking and financial services, in a move that strengthens its AI-native Banking OS and advances the evolution of what the company calls Agentic Banking. As part of the acquisition, Kasisto’s technology platform, banking-focused AI expertise, and New York-based team will be integrated into Backbase.
The acquisition addresses a growing challenge in the banking sector, where many institutions have deployed AI agents in isolated functions that can answer customer queries but often fail to resolve end-to-end banking tasks. By combining Kasisto’s reasoning-based AI capabilities with Backbase’s Banking OS, the companies aim to deliver intelligent, governed AI agents capable of understanding customer intent and executing actions across banking channels, operations, and service workflows.
“This acquisition sharpens our position as the strategic partner for banks serious about AI transformation. With Kasisto inside the Banking OS, no one is better positioned to lead the shift from conversation to resolution.” — Jouk Pleiter, CEO and Founder, Backbase
Backbase said the acquisition supports three strategic priorities: embedding banking-grade agentic AI into its platform, enabling front-to-back customer service resolution, and expanding its presence in the United States. The integrated solution will allow banks to automate complex processes such as eligibility checks, policy application, workflow execution, and customer servicing while maintaining compliance and governance controls.
According to Backbase, the combined platform will help financial institutions move beyond AI-powered conversations to fully resolved customer outcomes across chat, messaging, and voice channels. Kasisto CEO Lance Berks said the partnership brings together an AI-native banking operating system and purpose-built financial services intelligence, creating a new benchmark for how banks deploy and scale AI.
The newly combined Agentic Banking suite is available immediately through the Backbase Banking OS for existing and future customers worldwide.
