Cohesity Data Cloud combines infrastructure-as-code reconstruction with backed-up application data to help enterprises restore cloud applications after cyberattacks.
Cohesity has secured interoperability validation from HashiCorp, an IBM company, for its cloud rebuild capabilities with Terraform Self-Managed, enabling organisations to reconstruct cloud infrastructure and restore application data through a coordinated recovery process.
The integration addresses a critical gap in cyber resilience: restoring not just application data, but also the infrastructure and configuration needed to make applications operational again. Terraform uses an organisation’s reviewed and approved code to recreate its declared cloud configuration, while Cohesity Data Cloud restores application data from backups. The approach is designed to return applications to a trusted state rather than simply reproduce an environment that may contain attacker-made changes.
Cohesity said this is the first cloud recovery method IBM has validated for interoperability with Terraform Self-Managed, its self-hosted infrastructure-as-code platform. The capability is available through Cohesity Data Cloud Enterprise Edition.
The urgency is underscored by findings from Cohesity’s 2026 Global Cyber Resilience Report, based on a Vanson Bourne survey of 3,200 security and IT decision-makers. In the UAE, 91% of respondents said their recovery plans would require moderate or significant changes to address AI-enabled attacks exploiting software weaknesses, while only 1% considered their plans ready.
“If you build as code, you can now recover as code.” — Vasu Murthy, Chief Product Officer, Cohesity
“Attackers using AI move faster than any team can rebuild by hand,” said Vasu Murthy, Chief Product Officer, Cohesity, adding that combining infrastructure reconstruction with data restoration gives organisations both components needed to recover applications.
Tyler Lynch, Outbound CTO, Automation, IBM Software, said the companies worked together to validate how their technologies use Terraform state to recover cloud applications, their underlying infrastructure and associated data.
The recovery workflow maps application resources and their dependencies, protects Terraform code and application data over time, and enables administrators to select a recovery point. It also highlights the time difference between the selected code version and its corresponding data backup, helping teams understand the recovery point they are using. For databases such as Amazon RDS, a guided process supports reconnection to the wider application.
Cohesity cloud rebuild is available now as part of Data Cloud Enterprise Edition. Existing customers using Data Protect or Cohesity NetBackup can upgrade to access the capability and the company’s broader cyber resilience portfolio.
