WSO2 Unveils API Platform to Enable Secure, Agent-Ready AI Ecosystems

Derric

WSO2 has launched its new API Platform, aimed at helping enterprises prepare their APIs and AI assets for the rapidly evolving agentic AI landscape. The platform provides a unified control plane to manage traditional APIs alongside AI components such as models, prompts, and MCP servers, enabling organizations to securely expose, govern, and monetize digital assets without vendor lock-in.

As enterprises move toward autonomous AI systems, they face growing challenges around governance, cost control, and data protection. Legacy API management solutions are often ill-equipped to handle these complexities, particularly as shadow AI and agent-driven workflows introduce new risks. WSO2’s platform is designed to address these gaps by offering a modular, unbundled architecture that allows organizations to adopt capabilities incrementally, reducing both cost and deployment time.

“Enterprises are now exposing APIs and proprietary data to AI agents, and that fundamentally changes the risk profile.” – Derric Gilling

At the core of the platform is the AI Gateway, which enables enterprises to convert existing APIs into agent-ready services using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It also provides control over third-party AI tools and large language models, ensuring compliance and minimizing risks such as data leakage. Features like semantic caching, adaptive routing, and token-based rate limiting help organizations optimize performance and manage AI-related costs effectively.

The platform also includes an AI Workspace, a centralized environment for managing AI assets and enforcing governance policies. With built-in guardrails and integration capabilities, organizations can ensure responsible AI usage while meeting regulatory requirements.

Additionally, the platform offers integrated analytics and monetization features powered by Moesif, enabling enterprises to track usage, generate insights, and create new revenue streams from APIs and AI services. Flexible pricing models further enhance its business value.

With support for multi-gateway federation, the platform integrates seamlessly with existing API ecosystems, allowing organizations to unify their infrastructure without migration.

Through this launch, WSO2 aims to provide enterprises with a scalable and flexible foundation to transition into the agentic AI era while maintaining control over security, cost, and performance.
