New AI-Powered Search Enhances Video Investigations with Natural Language Processing

Axis Communications has launched free text search in AXIS Camera Station Pro, a powerful forensic tool that enables users to search for objects in video footage using their own words. This AI-powered feature enhances flexibility and speeds up investigations by allowing natural language queries instead of relying solely on pre-defined categories.

“Free text search brings a new level of flexibility and efficiency to video investigations, making it easier to find critical footage quickly and accurately.”

The new Smart Search 2 toolbox now integrates both pre-classified objects and free text search, offering a more intuitive and efficient way to locate incidents and objects in large volumes of recorded video.

Built on an open-source foundation model trained on billions of image-text pairs, Axis has fine-tuned the system for surveillance-specific use cases, ensuring more precise results. Users can search for objects based on characteristics like uniforms, brands, or logos, making it easier to track relevant footage.

Key Features:

  • Search using natural language descriptions in English
  • Fine-tuned AI for surveillance use cases
  • On-premises video processing for enhanced data privacy
  • Search by brand, clothing type, or other object details
  • Combine with filters like date, time, and object movement
  • Built-in moderation tools to promote responsible use

With on-premises processing, the feature ensures regulatory compliance while maintaining user privacy. Free text search is included in the Windows client and will also be available via the web client, making it accessible across multiple platforms.

This latest innovation reinforces Axis Communications’ commitment to enhancing video security with AI-driven solutions that improve efficiency and accuracy in surveillance operations.
