Axis Communications Launches New License Plate Recognition Camera Kits for Traffic Monitoring and Access Control

Axis Communications

New purpose-tuned solutions deliver reliable license plate recognition for both slow-speed and free-flow traffic environments

Axis Communications has announced the launch of three new License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera kits designed to streamline vehicle identification, access control, and traffic monitoring across a wide range of environments.

The new camera kits come with AXIS License Plate Verifier preinstalled, enabling organizations to perform accurate license plate recognition directly on the camera without requiring external servers. In addition to identifying license plates, the solutions can also recognize vehicle characteristics such as type, color, make, and model under optimal conditions.

The launch includes three purpose-built models tailored to different traffic scenarios. The AXIS P3285-LVE Kit License Plate Verifier is designed for slow-speed traffic environments and features a 2 MP dome camera. The solution supports vehicle access management through easy-to-configure allow and block lists that can be managed directly on the device.

For free-flow traffic scenarios, Axis has introduced the AXIS P1485-LE Kit License Plate Verifier, a robust 2 MP bullet camera engineered to capture vehicle registration details accurately as vehicles move through monitored areas. The third solution, AXIS P1486-LE Kit License Plate Verifier, incorporates advanced global shutter technology to capture sharp images of fast-moving vehicles with minimal distortion. Featuring a 3 MP bullet camera, it supports license plate recognition across two traffic lanes simultaneously.

“These purpose-built license plate recognition kits deliver accurate vehicle identification without the need for external servers, helping organizations simplify deployments while improving operational efficiency.”

The out-of-the-box ready kits are designed to operate reliably in challenging lighting conditions and support easy integration with both Axis and third-party video management systems through open APIs. This flexibility allows organizations to scale deployments and integrate LPR capabilities into broader security and traffic management platforms.

Additional features include electronic image stabilization, ensuring smooth and stable video performance regardless of installation location. The vandal-resistant design of the slow-speed model also allows secure deployment at accessible heights.

With growing demand for automated vehicle access control, parking management, traffic monitoring, and site security, Axis Communications aims to provide organizations with a simplified, scalable, and highly reliable license plate recognition solution adaptable to a variety of operational environments.
