Axis Communications is preparing to launch the AXIS D2124-VE Radar, a device designed to deliver AI-powered classification and 360-degree area protection across expansive sites, regardless of weather and lighting conditions.
The radar can detect objects up to 200 metres away and provides human recognition across a 40,000-square-metre area. Its box-shaped detection and recognition zones are designed to simplify coverage planning and system design, while the device can be mounted on sturdy poles, mobile surveillance trailers or rooftops.
A key capability is radar image stabilisation, designed to improve detection accuracy when the device is exposed to vibrations, making it suited to windy environments.
“Traditionally, securing massive areas required complex, multi-sensor deployments that left critical gaps and burdened security teams with constant manual verification.”
— Niklas Lindman, Global Product Manager for Radar, Axis Communications
Axis is positioning the D2124-VE as part of an automated surveillance architecture. It can be paired with the AXIS Q6225-LE PTZ Camera and AXIS Radar Autotracking for PTZ. The combination uses radar detection, camera autotracking and server-side AI-powered video classification to visually verify radar alarms without human intervention.
An optional double-knock feature adds another layer of verification, requiring visual confirmation before triggering an event and helping minimise false alarms.
Despite its broad coverage, the D2124-VE averages 14.8 watts across the entire 40,000-square-metre human recognition zone.
The combination of wide-area radar, AI classification, automated visual verification and low power consumption reflects a broader shift toward more intelligent perimeter protection. For large sites, the approach can reduce dependence on continuous human monitoring while improving detection and verification across expansive areas.
