Data Privacy Day 2025: Strengthening Digital Defenses

Resized_Johnny

“This World Data Privacy Day, the stark rise in cyber threats reminds us of the critical need to rethink our approach to data protection. In the UAE, daily cyberattacks have surged from 50,000 to over 200,000, as quoted by His Excellency Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cyber Security for the UAE Government during GITEX 2024. This underscores the urgency to go beyond traditional cybersecurity and build true resilience by adopting proactive measures such as AI-driven threat simulations and advanced encryption to not just safeguard data but to anticipate and mitigate evolving risks.

By aligning with the UAE’s ethical AI policies and National Cybersecurity Strategy, organisations have a unique opportunity to combine innovation with robust security. Prioritising ethical AI and resilient data practices not only protects critical systems but fosters trust, ensures operational continuity, and drives sustainable growth in today’s interconnected digital environment.

“At Cohesity, we are committed to helping organisations navigate this complex threat landscape with integrated security solutions that ensure they are prepared for what’s next.”

Implementing robust encryption protocols, including migrating to encryption methods resilient to emerging quantum computing attacks, is essential. Additionally, consider working with technology companies who can offer immutable data security, can provide an extra layer of security, ensuring data cannot be altered or deleted, and thus protecting against ransomware attacks, data breaches and the unnecessary financial loss accrued because of downtime.  Appointing security champions in each business unit to educate their peers on tailored data privacy processes based on data classification levels is an important step. By embedding these practices, compliance with varying regulatory requirements will naturally follow.

At Cohesity, we are committed to helping organisations navigate this complex threat landscape with integrated security solutions that ensure they are prepared for what’s next.
