Trellix Prevents Enterprise Data Exposure in Sanctioned and Shadow AI

Trellix

Introduces enhanced data security capabilities and a three-part framework to strengthen visibility, control, and governance across AI-driven environments

Trellix has announced a comprehensive set of data security enhancements alongside a strategic framework aimed at helping enterprises securely adopt generative AI while minimizing risks of data exposure and loss. As AI adoption accelerates across industries, organizations are increasingly challenged by the rise of “shadow AI” and the lack of visibility into how sensitive data is accessed and shared.

According to industry insights, AI adoption has surged significantly, with a majority of businesses already integrating AI into at least one function. However, this rapid uptake has outpaced traditional security controls, leading to heightened risks and a measurable increase in data breach costs. Even sanctioned AI tools can introduce vulnerabilities when enterprises lack clearly defined policies and governance mechanisms.

To address these challenges, Trellix has introduced a unified approach combining technology, policy, and training. The framework is built around three core pillars: establishing clear data usage policies, reinforcing governance through organizational training and processes, and enabling real-time monitoring and enforcement.

“The rapid adoption of AI tools across enterprises is creating new and often invisible data risks. Bringing together policy, visibility, and enforcement is critical to ensuring organizations retain control over how sensitive data is used across both sanctioned and shadow AI,” said Alex Au Yeung, Chief Product Officer at Trellix.

At the technology level, Trellix has enhanced its Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Data Encryption, and Database Security solutions to provide deeper visibility and control over AI interactions with enterprise data. The Trellix DLP AI Data Risk Dashboard enables organizations to monitor both approved and unauthorized AI usage, detect high-risk activities, and respond to incidents centrally. Meanwhile, Database Security with Analytics Hub strengthens protection against unauthorized access and vulnerabilities, and Data Encryption ensures that sensitive information remains accessible only to authorized users.

Complementing these capabilities, Trellix Professional Services helps organizations operationalize AI data protection strategies through policy development, technical implementation, and employee training. This holistic approach enables enterprises to build an AI-aware culture while ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.

As AI continues to reshape enterprise operations, Trellix is positioning itself as a key enabler of secure AI adoption helping organizations harness innovation while maintaining strict control over their most critical data assets.
