Veeam Unlocks Enterprise Backup Data for AI with Anthropic MCP Integration

Veeam Software

New capabilities turn data resilience into an enabler of AI-driven business insights and decision-making

Veeam Software has taken a significant step in bridging enterprise backup data with artificial intelligence (AI). At its flagship VeeamON conference, the company announced support for Anthropic’s open standard Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing AI tools to access and use backup data stored in Veeam repositories securely and efficiently.

This integration transforms Veeam’s platform from a passive data vault into an active intelligence layer for enterprises. It empowers AI systems—ranging from internal copilots to custom-built LLMs—to retrieve, interpret, and generate value from previously archived data.

“We’re not just backing up data anymore—we’re opening it up for intelligence,” said Niraj Tolia, CTO at Veeam. “With support for MCP, customers can now safely connect Veeam-protected data to the AI tools of their choice and unlock smarter business decisions.”

Enterprise Use Cases Take Center Stage

With MCP, organizations can:

  • Retrieve relevant documents using natural language
  • Summarize conversations from archived emails or service tickets
  • Automate compliance workflows and e-discovery
  • Feed enterprise-specific context into AI agents and copilots

These capabilities position backup data as a strategic asset, not just an insurance policy.

“We’re not just backing up data anymore—we’re opening it up for intelligence,” says Niraj Tolia, CTO, Veeam Software.

Five-Pillar Vision for AI-Powered Data Resilience Veeam’s AI roadmap focuses on:

  1. AI Infrastructure Resilience for secure AI environments
  2. Data Intelligence to create added value from protected data
  3. AI-Enhanced Security to defend against modern cyber threats
  4. Admin Assist with AI support for IT teams
  5. Data Resilience Operations for intelligent policies and risk-aware backups
