Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP now supported as external storage for Amazon Elastic VMware Service, enabling faster, smarter cloud transitions

NetApp has announced that Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP® is now a supported external storage option for Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS) on AWS. This integration empowers organizations to migrate VMware workloads to AWS with greater speed, flexibility, and efficiency—without re-platforming or disrupting existing workflows.

Amazon EVS, now generally available, enables users to run VMware Cloud Foundation directly within their Amazon VPC. By integrating FSx for ONTAP, customers gain access to enterprise-grade storage with advanced data management, protection, and automation capabilities—critical for managing mission-critical workloads in the cloud.

“Customers utilizing Amazon EVS with FSx for ONTAP can now enjoy the same data efficiency, protection, and automation they trust on-premises,” said Pravjit Tiwana, SVP and GM, Cloud Storage at NetApp. “Through our collaboration with AWS, we’re making it easier to move critical workloads to the cloud and manage them at scale.”

NetApp’s Intelligent Data Infrastructure helps reduce migration complexity, lower costs, and improve cyber resilience. Customers have reported up to 50% cost savings using FSx for ONTAP, while benefiting from real-time ransomware protection, disaster recovery support, and automated workload migration via BlueXP.

Robin Gardner, CCO at Xtravirt, a NetApp Preferred Partner, added: “Support for FSx for ONTAP on Amazon EVS gives customers granular control over their data, enabling secure, efficient hybrid deployments.”

This milestone reinforces NetApp’s commitment to enabling seamless cloud transitions and delivering scalable, secure infrastructure for modern workloads.
