IFS and Boston Dynamics Join Forces to Revolutionize Field Operations with Robotics and Agentic AI

IFS

IFS, a global leader in Industrial AI software, has partnered with Boston Dynamics to transform how asset-intensive organizations manage and optimize field operations. The collaboration integrates Boston Dynamics’ autonomous inspection robots with IFS.ai’s agentic AI, creating a seamless system that connects sensing, predictive decision-making, and action in the field.

The partnership addresses critical labor and skills shortages in industries such as manufacturing, energy, utilities, and mining, where traditional field operations are often constrained by workforce availability. By combining robotics with agentic AI, organizations can reduce human exposure to hazardous environments, optimize efficiency, and maximize asset uptime.

“Robotics and agentic AI are reshaping industrial operations, making them safer, faster, and more intelligent,”

— Christian Pedersen, Chief Product Officer, IFS

At Industrial X Unleashed in New York, IFS and Boston Dynamics demonstrated how their joint solution operates: Spot robots inspect industrial assets in real time, using thermal cameras, analog gauge reading, hazard detection, and leak monitoring. The data collected feeds into IFS.ai, where intelligent algorithms analyze it and trigger appropriate actions—creating a continuous loop from field sensing to operational execution.

“Asset-intensive organizations face unrelenting pressure to improve operational performance,” said Christian Pedersen, Chief Product Officer, IFS. “Together with Boston Dynamics, we’re delivering a truly autonomous system that connects the physical and digital worlds. Data flows from the field into enterprise systems, decisions are made autonomously, and actions are executed back in the field—all within a single integrated platform.”

Dr. Merry Frayne, Director of Product at Boston Dynamics, added: “Our robots excel at navigating complex environments and gathering critical data. Combined with IFS’s agentic decision-making capabilities, we’re enabling organizations to achieve levels of operational excellence and safety that simply weren’t possible before.”

Eversource, a major New England energy provider, is already exploring the solution. Ron Utterbeck, CIO, Eversource, commented: “This integration has the potential to radically transform operations, allowing our skilled crews to focus on high-priority tasks while routine inspections are automated. It’s a genuine shift from reactive to predictive maintenance.”

The collaboration marks a significant step forward in industrial AI adoption, demonstrating how robotics and intelligent automation can deliver measurable improvements in safety, efficiency, and uptime for field operations across asset-intensive sectors.
