Confluent Appoints Stephen Deasy as Chief Technology Officer

Veteran engineering leader to accelerate Confluent’s vision of real-time data streaming for AI, intelligence, and enterprise innovation


Confluent has appointed Stephen Deasy as its new Chief Technology Officer. In his new role, Deasy will shape the engineering team’s vision, strategy, and execution, driving how Confluent builds and scales its platform to power global real-time intelligence and AI.

With more than two decades of experience leading engineering at high-growth software companies, Deasy brings a proven track record in building and scaling platforms for some of the world’s most demanding systems. His appointment comes at a time when enterprises are rapidly shifting to real-time data strategies to fuel AI-driven use cases, hyper-personalized customer experiences, and automated operations.

Deasy most recently served as CTO at Benchling, where he built global product and platform teams. At Atlassian, he led engineering for flagship products including Jira, Confluence, and Trello, along with the company’s cloud platform. His earlier leadership roles span VMware, EMC, and Groupon, and he also holds multiple patents while actively investing in early-stage technology companies.
