Cloudflare Partners with Global Payment Leaders to Secure Agentic Commerce

Collaboration with Visa, Mastercard, and American Express to build authentication standards for AI-driven digital transactions.

In a major move to define the next era of digital transactions, Cloudflare has announced a collaboration with the world’s largest payments companies — VisaMastercard, and American Express — to create a global authentication layer for agentic commerce, where AI agents act as digital shoppers for consumers.

“The future of commerce is agentic, and Cloudflare is building the trusted foundation for it.”
— Stephanie Cohen, Chief Strategy Officer, Cloudflare

The collaboration leverages Cloudflare’s Web Bot Auth protocol, an open standard that allows AI agents to securely authenticate themselves online. Visa has incorporated this technology into its Trusted Agent Protocol, forming the backbone of its Visa Intelligent Commerce platform. Mastercard is embedding Web Bot Auth into Mastercard Agent Pay, while American Express plans to use the protocol across its own agentic commerce programs.

“Trusted Agent Protocol helps merchants serve real customers without blocking AI innovation.”
— Jack Forestell, Chief Product and Strategy Officer, Visa

Agentic commerce is transforming e-commerce by enabling AI to handle entire purchase journeys, from product discovery to payment. This innovation, however, raises new security challenges — a gap Cloudflare and its partners aim to close.

“We are ensuring a unified approach to agentic commerce that is scalable, secure, and widely adopted.”
— Jorn Lambert, Chief Product Officer, Mastercard

“With our global network, we’re enabling trust protocols that allow AI agents to transact safely,” said Stephanie Cohen of Cloudflare. “Security must be built into innovation, not added after.”

“Trust and accountability are at the core of what we do, and this collaboration strengthens both.”
— Luke Gebb, EVP & Head of Global Innovation, American Express

The initiative is supported by leading partners including Adyen, Checkout.com, Fiserv, Microsoft, Nuvei, Shopify, and Worldpay, marking a significant milestone in secure, AI-powered digital commerce at Internet scale.
