Fifth annual report outlines progress in election security, journalism protection, AI governance, and sustainability
Cloudflare has published its fifth annual Impact Report, detailing how the company is advancing its mission to build a faster, more secure, and more sustainable Internet. The report outlines key achievements in protecting democratic institutions, supporting independent journalism and nonprofits, strengthening AI governance, and reducing environmental impact.
A major focus area in 2025 was safeguarding vulnerable organizations from escalating cyber threats. Through Project Galileo, Cloudflare provided free cybersecurity protection to more than 3,000 public-interest websites across 120+ countries, including journalists, human rights defenders, and humanitarian groups. These organizations collectively faced an average of 9.9 billion cyberattacks per month, with Cloudflare blocking a record 290 million attacks per day targeting independent media outlets.

The report also highlights Cloudflare’s role in protecting democratic processes worldwide. Via the Athenian Project, the company secured election-related digital infrastructure across 33 U.S. states and seven countries. During a critical election window, Cloudflare successfully mitigated more than 200 million DDoS attacks aimed at election systems. The company also supported the security of Moldova’s parliamentary elections amid sustained cyberattacks and foreign influence campaigns.
As artificial intelligence increasingly reshapes the Internet, Cloudflare expanded support for nonprofits and independent media to help them manage how AI systems access and use original content. By offering Bot Management and AI Crawl Control tools at no cost to Project Galileo participants, Cloudflare is enabling publishers to better protect their content and compete in an AI-driven digital ecosystem.
Sustainability remains another cornerstone of Cloudflare’s impact strategy. In 2025, the company completed its commitment to offset or remove approximately 31,000 metric tons of CO₂e, covering emissions generated by its global network prior to its first renewable energy purchase in 2018.
Looking ahead, Cloudflare is investing in future talent by committing to hire 1,111 interns in 2026, with a strong emphasis on AI applications and innovation. Overall, the company delivered more than $19 million in donated products and services during 2025, reinforcing its long-term commitment to an open, secure, and inclusive Internet.
