Axis Communications Redefines Perimeter Protection with AI-Driven Multi-layered Radars

Axis Communications

Axis Communications is setting a new benchmark in intelligent surveillance with the launch of two advanced radars — the AXIS D2122-VE and AXIS D2123-VE — designed to deliver AI-powered classification and radar-video fusion across vast and complex environments. These innovations represent a decisive step forward in multi-layered security, offering accuracy, flexibility, and adaptability for today’s evolving threat landscape.

Both radars bring cutting-edge AI analytics to large-area monitoring, functioning flawlessly in all weather and lighting conditions, 24/7. The AXIS D2122-VE delivers a 180° horizontal field of detection, capable of identifying humans up to 140 meters away across 20,000 square meters, making it ideal for walls and fences. The AXIS D2123-VE, with a 270° field of detection, covers an impressive 30,000 square meters, ideal for poles or corner mounting. Both employ box-shaped detection zones, simplifying system design and ensuring optimal coverage.

“AI-powered surveillance is shifting from detection to real-time interpretation — a leap toward proactive security.”

Where Axis truly stands apart is in its integration with ARTPEC-9-based PTZ cameras, which enables radar-video fusion technology — a sophisticated blend of radar and video analytics that significantly reduces false alarms. Through edge-to-edge pairing, these devices operate under a single IP address and VMS license, simplifying setup while enabling seamless coordination between radar detection and camera verification. Security operators can even activate double-knock verification, ensuring both radar and video confirm an event before triggering an alert — a crucial enhancement for high-security sites.

Beyond detection, these radars are built for scalability and sustainability. Their low power consumption, PoE out support, and compatibility with other Axis devices such as panoramic cameras and strobe speakers make them ideal for off-grid or mobile deployments.

With these innovations, Axis Communications reinforces its leadership in AI-driven physical security, empowering organizations to move from passive monitoring to actionable, intelligent protection. As surveillance systems evolve, Axis’ approach — blending automation, analytics, and adaptability — highlights a future where technology doesn’t just watch, but understands.
