Acronis Report Warns of AI-Driven Cyber Threats

Cyberattacks are escalating, with nearly 50% of business users targeted by email-based attacks in the second half of 2024, according to the latest Acronis Cyberthreats Report. The report highlights a 197% increase in email threats compared to 2023, with phishing and ransomware attacks becoming more sophisticated due to AI-driven tactics.

“Cybercriminals are leveraging AI and automation to increase the scale and effectiveness of their attacks,” said Gerald Beuchelt, CISO at Acronis. “Organizations must strengthen their defenses to stay ahead of these evolving threats.”

Key Findings from the Report

✅ Email Threats on the Rise – 31.4% of all emails were spam, and 1.4% contained malware or phishing links.

✅ MSPs Under Attack – 33% faced phishing campaigns, with RDP vulnerabilities also exploited.

✅ UAE a Major Target – In December 2024, the UAE had the highest percentage of blocked malicious URLs (16.2%).

✅ Ransomware Tactics Evolving – Hackers use stolen credentials, social engineering, and supply chain attacks to breach networks.
